• The island is the site of one of the most significant volcanic eruptions in recorded history. Approximately 3,600 years ago, the volcano erupted, causing a tsunami to hit the island of Crete.
• Grape growing is a significant part of San Santorini's economy. Due to the windy conditions, grapes grow in coils on the ground rather than trellises.
